In promo information, there is written you have a unique sound. That´s nice, but... :-) How would you introduce your music? What do you thing basically about the feeling of new album? - Difficult to say, I prefer not to analyse the music too much. I would rather leave that to people like you. If I have to for the sake of interviews then I would say Primordial is Dark Irish Metal, Passionate, atmospheric and emotional. Pure and Honest sounding with a strong hint of traditional Irish music and it is Heavy Metal very much in the traditional sense of old Metal. The new album continues upon the path we have forged with our past albums…yet is something fresh and vital once more. To me, it seems the record is more heavy (maybe even black metal oriented) but in a same moment, there are many moments composed very atmospherical, freshy way. It seems like you wished to stress the opposition of there two faces of your music. - Totally, Tragedy and Might, Light and Shade. Songwriting dynamics are very important to us and it is more then simply placing one riff after another. We are looking at songs as a whole piece of music. You are right the sound of the new albumis heavier and more direct, with a much better drum sound then previous albums. And yes there is more then a passing reference to traditional Black Metal elements, but that should not be surprising for people as Primordial came from the second wave of Black metal 88-94. Do you see Storm Before calm like an important step further? I liked Spirit... very much, but this one seems to me much more „clever“ in arrangements and the whole production seems more complex. - All the albums are connected and one step after another, we do not repeat ourselves but there are no drastic changes, we are just following our natural path of evolution. Primordial has always had some complex pieces here and there, Storm just felt the right album to make…to take things a little further, more aggressive and intense yet with that melancholy still in there. The production is more complex that is true. Where do you search for inpiration for lyrics? I suppose it is mainly historical and mythological... At least it seems you are very close to your native land. - It could be anywhere or anything, I don’t really analyse it. I just know that when I have to write I have to write. It could be people, places, passages in time, religion, sex, death, whatever, or as you say myths and legend, folklore and culture from many places and ages. I am open to many influences. We are indeed close to our native land…you can hear this pride within in the music of Primordial. By the way.. In „The Hosting Of The Sidhe“ - that´s inspired or you just used the poem of W.B. Yeats? - He has been an inspiration to us over the years and we really wanted to put one of his poems to music and honour his legacy and the legacy of a great Irishman. I think we succeeded. Primordial and Yeats fits together very well in my opinion. |
