How did Blood Revolt come together? Was it You Alain who contacted REVENGE/CONQUEROR Mastermind James Read and Chris Ross or vice versa, or was it all a fluke?

# fluke? I don’t really think anyone involved with any of their former bands has done anything by accident. J.Read contacted me about the idea after we all met at a revenge show here in Dublin. Axis had just ended so the time felt right for them to try something new and different.

What are the origins of the project and some goals that you wanted to achieve with it?

# some of the musical origins lay in the final axis album that was never made. The goals? Just to make something different, challenging but punishingly extreme and real. Something dark, violent and uncompromisingly real.

Did you split the work on “Indoctrine”? I mean were James and Chris responsible for the entire music and you for the lyrics or was it more teamwork. I can imagine it was rather difficult to be spererated on two different continents while writing on an Album, or did the internet nowadays make it damn easy?

# james and chris wrote the music and we traded cds. I wrote the lyrics and developed the concept but we all conspired together. The general aesthetic and artwork again is guided by me perhaps but definitely a group effort beneath. The three of us were all very focused in the same direction. I went to Canada to record the vocals, overdubs and final mixing. So we could make the album feel more like a band effort. We didn’t want to make it that easy.

There is a concept behind “Indoctrine”. You tell the story about a mans descent from alienation to martyrdom in eight chapters – do you think it might be possible to continue this story for possible future releases of BLOOD REVOLT if there might be any?

# this is a good question. I haven’t really thought that far other than the fact that I don’t see any reason why we should stop after this album. The concept ends with the characters death so how to continue that would be pretty difficult.

Have you seen BLOOD REVOLT from the beginning as a studio-only project or can you envision live shows for Blood Revolt in the future?

# again I don’t see why not. We are talking about this right now. Who to get in on bass and the possibility of taking this on tour.

I wrote in my Review about “Indoctrine” that it sounds like PRIMORDIAL would drop Speed Pills 24/7 in their mouth and while doing that they praise the gruffness of old HELLHAMMER alongside with a latent pinch of VOIVOD pumping in their stomach… how you like my short description??

# possibly. My voice is my voice and people who know me will recognise that but I think I’ve added a few more sounds to my repertoire. I can hear old grind like Repulsion, some Voivod also, of course Axis and Revenge in there as well but also loads of old thrash and early death metal violence. Sure, it’s a strange combination for some but what would be the point of rehashing the same old thing over and over again?

You recently played  in Twilight of The Gods with Blasphemer, Frode Glesnes, Nick Barker, and Patrik Lindgren the METALFEST Series as headlining Band. Most of the people thought that will be a one off thing to celebrate the Music of Quorthon and BATHORY, but now you are booked as Headliner for the so called Heidenfest Tour here in Europe. Can you imagine that there are people out there who will come up with the sell-out thing and stuff?? Or is it in your eyes more that just five guys celebrating the music of BATHORY period!!

# Listen. You think doing this is going to buy me a house or something? Really? I mean seriously? I love Bathory and always have. I decided this might be a challenge and also a fun thing to do. Nothing more than five guys paying tribute. They offered us a tour and I thought long and hard about this and decided, if I’ve been singing for 20 years already and possibly 20 more what’s one month off to sing some Bathory songs. I’m tired of armchair critics who never do anything with their lives or never have the balls to even achieve 10% of the things I do talking shit on forums. Do something with your fucking life? It’s just five guys playing the music of Bathory. You want to see it? Then come along and hopefully we can enjoy the music together. You don’t that’s fine also. You want to sit around and bitch about it, I’m sure you will anyway.

OK the last question about PRIMORDIAL:

I recently saw a statement for a possible timeframe of end of 2010 for the recording of the new Primordial Album. Is this on track? Has anything come to fruition thus far?

# Yeah we are looking at November to record. This year has been a strange year for Primordial with some very low points but hopefully all things that can make us stronger!

Vae victis.
