Interview –
sounds2move.de Christmas Special Hi there. Don’t be confused about that strange questions you receive with this e-mail interview. This won’t be a typical album/touring interview. It will be kind of a musicians poll about Christmas and the things that happened during 2007. Maybe it’s quite early at the moment but we have to collect the several answers as early as possible to make sure everything is working well. So I hope you’ll find the right mood to face these questions ;-) . Thank you very much for the time you spend in answering these questions. Take care, Markus & the www.sounds2move.de crew
Which record was the one that rotated most in your CD player this past year? Why exactly that one? hard to say, there has been quite a few. Probably rotting Christ – theogonia as its been my favourite release of the year and iron maiden – a matter of life and death as I had to listen to it so many damn times for it to sink in… Did you feel the need to immediately switch off the player because of an album or song? totally, all the time. Bullshit metalcore or pathetic female fronted goth pop shit…I hate all sorts of bands. I always give something a small chance in the stereo then in the bin it goes. No mercy If you look back to the last few months at the end of the year, is there one or more moments, which you remember in particular? A moment during a tour, a concert or maybe aside the stage? I remember nearly everything, depends what you mean. I definitely decided after playing in Finland to take it easier on the alcohol before and mainly after shows that’s for sure and try and sing better….waking up covered in blood and broken glass in hotel rooms you don’t remember being in isn’t that wonderful, then again still better then waking up and being in a goth metal band…the feeling in the studio when I knew how good the album was as well was important. The years is now drawing to a close. A countless number of albums have been released, old bands have gone, new bands did appear etc. What is your personal view on the past year concerning the musical matters? still some great bands making great music and nearly all of it underground, very little of any worth coming out on any big labels or by bigger bands. The real metal spirit exists right under people’s noses they are just too busy paying attention to whatever glossy hollow bullshit album is coming out on some big label that month… there were great albums out this year by…warning/watain/marduk/rotting Christ/witchcraft/reverend bizarre/shining/necros christos/jex thoth/deathspell omega/slough feg/ disaster/nifelheim…. Is there a person that impressed or elated you, or maybe caught your eye in another positive way? If yes: What are the reasons? loads of people who are dedicated to the cause of making proper honest music and not for commercial gain or to try and jump ship on current musical trends. In the people’s heads there is still that classical imagination of celebrating Christmas Eve within the family circle, with a tree, presents und all the other clichés. In your personal case: Does Christmas realy, partly or entirely, meet these clischés? And do you already know where you are going to celebrate Christmas and the New Year’s Eve? does anyone one really want to know what people in metal bands do for xmass ?. I certainly couldn’t give a fuck. In Ireland as you can imagine drinking plays a large part of it. Its just getting together with family and old friends, the religious dimension obviously means nothing to me. Assuming that you give out presents of different sizes at Christmas. Who gets the biggest, the most precious one? And what could that be? I don’t think im going to dignify this question with an answer. You, with a black eye how about that ?. The other way round: Do you remember the most pleasant or maybe the most horrible present that you have got for Christmas? I don’t remember anything like that really. It was never that important in our family. It was more about seeing people you didn’t very often… Multiple-Choice: Which description of Christmas and its meaning is from your point of view the closest to the truth and why? a) A traditional time of contemplation with the family b) Holydays based on religion and belief c) Welcome holidays from every day’s working life d) Commerce and pretended peace e) a time of crass commercialisation and materialism. Perpetrated by multinational companies and governments to keep people consuming through mindless greed. That gets longer and longer every year…. For many people Christmas time is connected with some certain kind of music, like the classical Christmas carols or genuine classical music. How is it like in your house? Does “Jingle Bells” ring through the hallway or do you keep clear of such sounds? this is the fucking gayest interview i've ever had to answer. Congratulations… Let us finally have a look at the future and the beginning of next year: Which concrete plans do you have for your band? What can we expect from you? no compromise to anyone. Back on stages around Europe and world and drinking you all under the table….
