samhains message

ok I know I've been lazy, in fact more then lazy. but better late then never. There's quite a lot to report so I'll get on with the task in hand. Our performance a few weeks ago at the Metal Blade Europe ten years anniversary bash really spelt for us the end of the Summer season of festivals and gigs here and there we have been doing. Sure there are a few more here and there but our concentration now is the xmass festival tour together with Morbid Angel, Unleashed, Ensiferum, Enthroned and Origin (you'll find the dates at the bottom of the page...). We are on the bill as long as the tour happens, that's official its just in our hands right now to pull the strings in our private life...boring reasons you don't want to know about but ones that every band faces with the prospect of coming home with less money then they make in their jobs and the older you get the harder it gets. In a utopian world of course Primordial would be as big as Opeth for example and we could simply worry only about music but life doesn't work like that so...we struggle on and cross bridges when we come to them. We haven't crossed this one yet but it looms on the horizon.

There's been a few shows to report as well. We played an excellent show in
hungary. I don't know if I mentioned that before but it was great to finally get there and receive a great response from the people there, we hope to be back again sometime in your lifetime. kaltenbach open air in Austria was also a good show for us although playing second last out of something like 20 bands second day really isn't the best for any band, with a lot of people too drunk and tired to really pay much attention and sadly for Destruction after with less then 100 people paying attention to them. Wacken open air was in general something of a wash out, anyone who was there knows exactly what I mean. Our show there was more or less a carbon copy of the show we played there in 2001. It was frustrating again to be on the tent stage although it was packed and the reaction was awesome but we clearly deserve a chance on a bigger stage but the way we looked at it was simple. We have an album out now so lets play now while we have some momentum, we could have played next year but who knows we could have left it and found we had the same slot or were playing at 10 am on friday morning or something. Up from the Ground was a good show although playing in the day really makes it hard to create some kind of atmosphere but it went well. Hells Pleasure on the other hand was a very long day and we thank everyone who held on to see us, it certainly got a little long in the tooth for us to be there till 2 am waiting to play some 12 hours after we arrived on the site. Hence why we were a little worse for the drink...well me especially.

Id like to thank Tim from Trimonium for his understanding concerning my little misdemeanour that evening !!!...as someone said in the guestbook it was sick and violent show. Greece was as usual great and it was a lot of fun to have our country mates Mourning Beloveth out there with us. The couple of days we were all there had everything really...a fly on the wall documentary would have been compulsive viewing and showed the somewhat shocking way young men treat their livers. One thing is for sure though, paying 20/25 euro into a show down there when the average wage is 150e per week puts things into perspective. Thessaloniki was a strange but good show although the PA fucking up for the last 4 songs wasn't the greatest way to end the evening.

Athens was a huge show and must go down as one of the best Primordial shows ever...we've got to thank Nikos (ex damaged prod) for the huge effort he put in to make the shows happen under some very difficult circumstances...not least some low life's trying to sabotage the show. However it happened and anyone who was there in Athens knows the magic that happened that night. So to all the saboteurs who've been on forums saying the show was awful etc...we'll be back in Greece again, most definitely I will so next time you never know you can explain your actions to my face...

And so to the Metal Blade anniversary party, well it was a pleasure to meet some of the American side of the label and Mr. Slagel himself and also very nice to play a club show in Germany to about 800 people, which for us is usually 4 dates of a normal tour in one night !!!. It was obvious this was Amon Amarth's night as well they are fucking huge in Germany but I think we got our message across and you never know you might see Amon Amarth and Primordial sharing more stages together in 2006. We played the Antichrist by Slayer as well which went down well and without too many mistakes. Under estimate those old Slayer tracks at your peril !...they are hard to do justice to. And in the end myself, Mick and Simon got dragged up together with Gerrit from Sacred Steel and Anton from Criminal to play Black Magic. yeah I played the bass...the less said the better !.

So now we have Sundown in Gailsdorf and Tyrants festival in October coming up...check the tour section. And one show. Metal Meeting in November....The split 7" with Mael Mordha has been sent to the pressing plant and the pre-orders have it nearly sold out so if you want a copy email Brian from Sentinel at sales@sentinelireland.com

So that's about everything, we have started working on some new songs (shock and horror....) but its really too early to say anything about them. But you never know it might take us less then 3 years to make the next album !...
Hopefully we will see you on tour in December with Morbid Angel !!!
